The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), the Abilene MPO and the City of Abilene have made FM 89 (Buffalo Gap Road) a top priority project. FM 89 is the main highway between Abilene and Wylie and has a mix of residential and commercial properties along the roadway. As these communities have expanded, traffic from US 83/84 to Chimney Rock Road has increased, creating congestion, increased crash rates and several other safety problems for drivers as well as pedestrians.
